How Much Is a Rust Account Worth?

QUICK ANSWER
On 19 October 2026 the 468 Rust accounts listed on BuyAccount were priced from $14.56 to $1,038.76, with a median of $60.66. Most accounts with under 100 Rust hours cost $21 to $24, less than the $39.99 Rust costs on Steam. Above that, hours only raise the price when kills and deaths back them: played accounts with 1,000 to 2,999 hours had a median of $145, while idled accounts with 3,600 to 6,000 hours and almost no kills were listed at $74.70. Skins, a higher Steam level, CS2 Prime and a bigger game library push the price up further.
Rust account prices run from less than the game itself to more than a thousand dollars, and the hour count on a listing explains less of that spread than you might expect. This guide uses a snapshot of our own listings to show what each part of an account adds, so you can judge a price before you pay.
Rust account prices by hours
These are the asking prices of every Rust account listed on BuyAccount on 19 October 2026, grouped by the Rust hours on the account. The typical range is the middle half of the prices in each group.
| Rust hours | Accounts | Typical range | Median |
|---|---|---|---|
| Under 100 | 141 | $21 to $24 | $21.84 |
| 100 to 499 | 30 | $49 to $105 | $88.27 |
| 500 to 999 | 30 | $97 to $159 | $119.92 |
| 1,000 to 2,999 | 65 | $52 to $239 | $113.30 |
| 3,000 to 4,999 | 112 | $74.70 for most | $74.70 |
| 5,000 or more | 90 | $46 to $75 | $60.66 |
Prices change as accounts sell and new ones are listed, so treat the table as a dated snapshot rather than a price list.
Why more hours don't always cost more
The two highest hour bands are cheaper than the middle ones, and the reason is idled hours. Steam counts the time Rust is running, so hours can be built up by leaving the game open. In the snapshot, 107 listings were priced at exactly $74.70: all of them have 3,600 to 6,000 hours, and none has more than 90 kills.
Played hours price differently. Among accounts with 1,000 to 2,999 hours, those whose kill and death stats back the hours had a median of $145, while the 13 with no kills or deaths at all had a median of $32.60. Above 5,000 hours, the accounts with no stats had a median of $46.08.
If all you need is to get past a server's hour check, idled hours do that for less. If you want an account that was really played, compare its kills and deaths with its hours; our guide to Rust hours explains how to read them.
Under 100 hours: cheaper than the game
Rust costs $39.99 on Steam in the US (19 October 2026), yet most accounts that own Rust and have under 100 hours were listed at $21 to $24. The typical one has under 8 hours of Rust, three games in its library and a Steam level of 3, so what you pay for is mostly the licence.
That saves money, but a bought account comes with risks a copy bought on Steam doesn't have, starting with Steam's rule against account sales. Read whether it is safe to buy a Rust account before you decide.
What else moves the price
A Rust account is a whole Steam account, so everything on it counts. In the same snapshot:
| Factor | Lower | Higher |
|---|---|---|
| Rust skins (Market value) | None: median $46.08 (199 accounts) | $10 to $50: median $239.22 (11 accounts) |
| Steam level | Level 1 to 4: median $46.08 (319) | Level 10 to 19: $110.39 (30); 20 or more: $292.47 (10) |
| CS2 Prime on the account | Without: median $60.66 (437) | With: median $137.88 (31) |
| Games in the library | 2 to 4 games: median $46.08 (250) | 30 games or more: median $104.32 (49) |
| Account age | Under 2 years: median $40.70 (40) | 7 years or more: median $74.70 (107) |
These factors overlap: older accounts tend to have a higher Steam level and more games, and the most expensive listings combine several of them. The ten priciest accounts in the snapshot all have between 450 and 6,800 Rust hours backed by roughly 1,000 to 15,000 kills.
Skins are valued at Steam Community Market prices from the day the listing was published, and those prices move. Items with no Market price, which is common for Twitch drop rewards, stay on the account but can't be sold on the Market. Other games and CS2 Prime come with the account, so they are worth paying for only if you will use them.
How to judge a price
- Start from the hours band in the table above.
- Check the kills and deaths behind the hours: played hours are worth more than idled ones.
- Count only the skins you want, at today's Market prices.
- Decide what the extras are worth to you: other games, CS2 Prime, a high Steam level.
- Rule out bans and the $5 limit: a cheap account with a game ban is worth nothing for Rust. See how to check a Rust account before buying.
Where the numbers come from
The snapshot covers all 468 Rust accounts listed on BuyAccount on 19 October 2026. Hours, kills and deaths come from each account's Steam data and skin values from Steam Community Market prices, read when the listing was published; prices are the asking prices on the site. Every listed account has no VAC or game ban on record and is not limited, and every order has 14-day buyer protection.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is a 5,000-hour account worth more than a 1,000-hour one?
Not necessarily. In the snapshot, played accounts with 1,000 to 2,999 hours had a higher median price than accounts with more than 5,000 hours, most of which had few or no kills. The kills and deaths tell you whether the hours were played.
Do Rust skins hold their value?
Market prices rise and fall with supply and demand, so a skin total is only true for the day it was read. Trading and Market listings can also be on hold for a while after an account changes hands.
Why do accounts with the same hours cost so differently?
Because hours are only one part of the account. Kills and deaths, skins, the Steam level, the account's age, CS2 Prime and the other games all count, and idled hours are worth less than played ones.
