Buff
A buff is a balance change that makes a character, weapon, ability, or item stronger, typically applied through a patch. Developers buff options that are too weak or rarely used, encouraging more players to try them and keeping the game balanced. It is the direct opposite of a nerf.
The word has a second meaning too: a temporary in-game effect that boosts a character’s stats for a short time, such as increased damage or movement speed, is also called a buff. Context makes the meaning clear. A well-timed balance buff can turn a forgotten character into one of the game’s most popular picks.
