FPS (Frames Per Second)
FPS, or frames per second, is how many individual images your computer or console renders each second. Higher FPS makes motion look smoother and feel more responsive; 60 FPS is a common baseline, while competitive players often aim for 144 FPS or more on high-refresh monitors.
FPS depends on your hardware and in-game graphics settings, not on your account, so it is a separate concept from ping and lag. Note that “FPS” is also short for “first-person shooter,” a game genre — the meaning is usually clear from context. When someone complains about choppy gameplay, low frames per second is often the real culprit.
