Root (Snare)
A root — also called a snare — is a crowd-control effect that locks a champion in place but, unlike a stun, still lets them attack, cast abilities, and use summoner spells. The target simply cannot walk or dash away.
Roots are excellent for setting up follow-up damage: pin an enemy down and your team can land skillshots that would otherwise be dodged. A rooted target can still fight back or Flash out of range, so roots are more about denying escape than fully disabling a foe. Many mages rely on a root as their primary way to catch opponents.
