Subtick
Subtick is CS2's update system, which records the precise sub-tick moment you fire, move, or jump rather than rounding it to the nearest server tick. In older Counter-Strike on a fixed tickrate, inputs were only processed at discrete intervals, so two players acting in the same tick were treated as simultaneous.
With subtick, the server knows exactly when each action occurred within a tick, aiming to make shooting and movement feel more responsive and consistent regardless of frame timing. It effectively replaces the old 64-tick versus 128-tick debate for shot registration, though players still discuss how it feels compared to legacy servers.
