Materials (Mats)

Materials, almost always shortened to mats, are the three resources used for building in Fortnite: wood, stone (brick), and metal. Each player can carry up to a capped amount of each type, and structures cost mats to place.

The three behave differently: wood builds and turtles up fastest, while metal is slow to reach full strength but ends up the toughest. Running out of mats mid-fight leaves you exposed, so managing your stockpile is as important as your aim in build modes. In No Build modes mats are not used at all.
