The Vault

The Vault is the term for where Fortnite’s developers retire weapons and items, pulling them out of the active loot pool so they can no longer be found in matches. “Vaulting” an item removes it, while “unvaulting” brings a fan-favourite back, often as a seasonal surprise.

Vaulting is how Epic keeps the meta fresh each season, rotating which guns and gadgets are available. The term is about the loot pool, not your account — a vaulted item simply stops spawning. It is unrelated to the in-game safes and supply vaults that hold high-tier loot, which players crack open for rewards during a match.
