Backline
The backline refers to the rear rows of your Teamfight Tactics board, where you place fragile but high-value units, usually your carries and support champions, to keep them away from enemy melee attackers.
Backline units typically deal ranged or ability damage and would die quickly if exposed, so the frontline shields them while they output damage from safety. Positioning here matters enormously: spreading units guards against area damage, while clustering can protect against assassins or specific threats. Smart backline placement, adjusting each round to dodge the enemy's biggest threats, frequently decides close fights and is a defining skill of experienced players.
