Best CS2 Knife Skins in 2026 (Ranked by Collectors)

The best CS2 knife skins are Karambits and Butterfly Knives in Doppler (especially Sapphire, Ruby and Black Pearl), Fade, Gamma Doppler Emerald and top Case Hardened "blue gem" patterns, and a knife is usually the single most valuable item on a CS2 account. Whether you are valuing an account, hunting for your dream loadout or trying to understand what separates a few-hundred-dollar knife from a several-thousand-dollar one, the answer comes down to model, finish, wear and, for some finishes, a single pattern number. This guide ranks the most desirable knife skins and explains what drives their prices.
Why knives dominate CS2 account value
Knives sit in a category of their own. Rifle and pistol skins drop in large numbers, but a knife is the "rare special item" in a weapon case: the chance of unboxing a knife or gloves is 0.26% per opening, roughly one in 385. Many of the cases that carry the most sought-after knife finishes are no longer in the active drop pool, so supply of those exact knives grows slowly while collector demand stays high.
That supply picture changed in October 2025, when Valve let players trade up five Covert skins from the same case into a knife or gloves from that case. Knife and glove prices fell sharply after the update, which is a useful reminder that knife values move with Valve's decisions. Even so, when buyers look at an account, the knife is still the first line item they check. The CS2 value calculator gives you a quick figure for an inventory, and our guide to how much a CS2 account is worth shows how a knife feeds into the overall price.
What drives a CS2 knife's price
Model. The knife model is the foundation of value. Some models have animations and inspect sequences that became iconic in CS:GO and carried that prestige into CS2. The Karambit and Butterfly Knife are the obvious examples. Models with less dramatic animations, such as the Flip Knife or Gut Knife, sit lower in the hierarchy regardless of finish. The newest model, the Kukri Knife, arrived with the Kilowatt Case in 2024.
Finish. Not every finish works equally well on every model. Doppler on a Karambit is a benchmark; the same finish on a Gut Knife is worth a fraction as much. Fade, Marble Fade and Case Hardened add another layer of variance because the pattern differs from knife to knife, sometimes dramatically.
Float and wear. Knife floats matter, but differently from weapon skins. On gradient finishes such as Fade, Factory New and Minimal Wear copies look very similar in hand. Crimson Web is the opposite: the web pattern must stay visible and clean, so only low-float examples are truly collectible. Always judge float in the context of the finish; our CS2 float value guide explains the wear tiers.
Pattern index. This is where knife pricing gets complex. On Fade knives, collectors track the fade percentage, and a near-full fade commands a premium over a lower percentage at the same wear. On Case Hardened knives, certain pattern indices produce blades that are almost entirely blue, and a top "blue gem" is among the most valuable items in the game. On Doppler knives, the pattern index decides which phase the knife lands in.
Doppler phases. Doppler knives come in Phase 1 to Phase 4 plus three special variants: Ruby (solid red), Sapphire (solid blue) and Black Pearl (dark iridescent). Phase 2 (mostly pink) and Phase 4 (mostly blue) are the most wanted standard phases. The special variants all carry a large premium; Sapphire usually commands the highest price, with Ruby and Black Pearl close behind, though the order can vary by model. Gamma Doppler has its own rare phase, Emerald.
StatTrak. A StatTrak counter adds a premium to almost every knife, but not a uniform one: on expensive knives it adds a large absolute amount, on budget knives much less.
Karambit: the undisputed king
No knife model inspires more desire than the Karambit. Its curved blade, finger ring and spinning inspect animation make it the most recognisable knife in CS2. The most coveted Karambit finishes, in rough order of peak desirability, are Doppler (especially Sapphire and Black Pearl), Fade (near-full fades), Gamma Doppler Emerald, Case Hardened blue gems and Marble Fade (Fire & Ice pattern). A Factory New StatTrak Karambit Sapphire is the kind of item that defines an inventory rather than merely contributing to it.
Butterfly Knife: prestige on almost any finish
The Butterfly Knife commands a premium on almost any finish, and its balisong-style flip animation is unique among CS2 knives. Top finishes include Doppler (with the same phase hierarchy as the Karambit), Fade, Tiger Tooth (a rich orange-gold on this model), Autotronic and Lore. A Butterfly Doppler Sapphire is genuinely extraordinary, and even a Factory New Phase 2 is a serious account-value driver.
M9 Bayonet: the reliable powerhouse
The M9 Bayonet's broad blade shows off colour finishes exceptionally well: Doppler phases look striking on it, and Crimson Web can be especially dramatic. It lacks the cinematic flair of the Karambit or Butterfly, and on price it usually sits just below those two, with Factory New Doppler and Fade examples holding strong demand.
Skeleton, Talon and the mid-tier models
The Skeleton Knife has a distinctive open-frame blade and is often priced below knives with a similar visual impact, which makes it a good pick for buyers who want a striking knife for less. Crimson Web and Slaughter work particularly well on its frame. The Talon Knife's claw-like blade is one of the most aggressive-looking in CS2; its Doppler and Gamma Doppler variants are the most sought-after, and Marble Fade (Fire & Ice) looks unlike anything else on this model. Below those sit solid mid-tier options: the Bayonet, the oldest model with strong nostalgia value in Doppler, Slaughter and Crimson Web, plus the Stiletto, Ursus and Classic Knife, all of which jump in value with a Fade or Doppler finish.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the most expensive CS2 knife?
The most expensive knives are typically Karambit or Butterfly variants in Doppler Sapphire or Black Pearl, or specific Case Hardened blue gem patterns, ideally Factory New and StatTrak. The most famous example, a Karambit Case Hardened with pattern #387, is widely reported to be valued above $1 million, though no completed sale at that level has been publicly confirmed. For the knife on a specific account, the CS2 value calculator gives a current-market reference.
Do CS2 knife skins hold their value over time?
Top-tier knives have historically held value better than most skins, but they are not immune to Valve's decisions. When Valve allowed Covert-to-knife trade-ups in October 2025, knife and glove prices fell sharply within days. New knives also keep entering the market from case openings. Treat a knife as a collectible that can lose value, not a guaranteed store of wealth; our piece on whether CS2 skins are a good investment covers the risks.
What is a Doppler phase, and which phase is best?
A Doppler knife's exact look is set by its pattern index, which can't be changed. That index produces one of four standard phases (Phase 1 to Phase 4) or one of three special variants: Ruby, Sapphire or Black Pearl. Phase 2 and Phase 4 are the most sought-after standard phases, and the special variants sit above all of them, with Sapphire usually the most valuable.
Does float value matter on a CS2 knife?
It depends on the finish. Factory New usually commands a premium, but on Doppler, Fade and Tiger Tooth the visible difference between Factory New and Minimal Wear is often slight. On Crimson Web, Slaughter and similar pattern finishes, float matters far more, because low floats keep the pattern clean. For those, weigh float alongside pattern.
