Clash Royale King Tower and Card Levels Explained

Since the 26 May 2026 update, Clash Royale tracks account progress with two numbers: the King Tower level (1 to 16), which rises as your cards are upgraded and never goes down, and the collection level, the sum of all your card levels plus bonuses for evolutions and heroes. The old King Level, earned through experience, was removed. Card levels themselves go up to 16.
Clash Royale's level system changed a lot in 2025 and 2026, and many listings still quote numbers that no longer exist in the game. This guide explains what each level means today and which ones to compare when you buy an account.
King Tower level
The King Tower level runs from 1 to 16. Since May 2026 it no longer comes from experience: it rises when enough of your cards reach a level. Level 2 needs 9 cards at level 1 or above, and level 16 needs 14 cards at level 15 or above. It never goes down. It sets your Crown Towers' strength, caps your Tower Troop levels and is checked by arena level gates.
Collection level
The collection level adds up the levels of all your cards, plus 5 for each evolution or hero you have unlocked and 1 for each upgrade. Tower Troops count towards it. It gives milestone rewards along a reward track, and because it sums the whole collection, it is the quickest single number to compare two accounts.

Evolutions and heroes
An evolution is an alternate form of a card, unlocked with 6 Evolution Shards, that triggers after the card has been played a set number of times. Heroes are a newer special form unlocked with Hero Coins. Both are among the hardest things to collect, so they add real value to an account.
What to compare on a listing
- King Tower level: the headline number; 16 is the maximum.
- Collection level: the best single summary of the whole collection.
- Cards at level 15 and 16, evolutions and champions.
- Trophies: the Trophy Road runs to 14,000 across 32 arenas; Ranked unlocks at 13,000.
