Is It Safe to Buy an Apex Legends Account?

QUICK ANSWER
Buying an Apex Legends account is never risk-free: EA's User Agreement tells players not to be involved in account buying or selling, and EA's help centre calls every third-party account sale unauthorized, so EA support will not take a buyer's side if something goes wrong. In practice the biggest risk is not a random ban but someone else keeping a way in: the previous owner through the email, or a Steam, PlayStation or Xbox account that is still linked to the EA account. You reduce that risk when you get the account's email, unlink every platform account you don't own and pay in a way that lets you check the account first.
Apex Legends lives on an EA account, and EA has no way to hand an account from one player to another. Every sale works by handing over the EA account login. This guide sets out what EA's rules say, which risks are real and which checks matter before and after you pay.
What EA's rules say
EA's User Agreement says your EA account is yours and not to be shared, and its rules of conduct say not to "promote or be involved in account or in-game currency buying, selling, distributing or farming". EA can suspend or terminate an account that breaks the agreement, without a refund.
EA's Apex Legends help page on playing by the rules goes further: buying Apex Legends accounts is against its rules, and all account transactions with third-party sellers are "unsafe and unauthorized by EA". It also warns that sellers use reassuring words such as "verified sellers", "secure marketplace", "safe" or "fast". We agree with that warning: no seller, including us, can make a purchase that EA does not allow risk-free, so treat any such promise with suspicion.
The practical point for a buyer: if the account is taken back or closed, EA support will not restore it to you. Your protection has to come from how much control you get over the account and from where you buy it. See also whether selling game accounts is legal.
The real risks, ranked
| Risk | Why it happens | How to reduce it |
|---|---|---|
| A linked platform account still has access | A Steam, PlayStation or Xbox account linked to the EA account can still sign in to it and play its progress | Check the Connected Accounts tab on day one and unlink every platform account you don't own |
| The previous owner recovers the account | Whoever controls the email can reset the password and receive login codes | Get the email the EA account uses, change the password and turn on two-factor authentication with your own method |
| EA closes the account | The User Agreement lets EA suspend or terminate accounts that break it | Prefer accounts with no EA ban on record and avoid anything that looks boosted or stat-padded |
| The listing doesn't match | Skins, legends or heirlooms are claimed but not there | Only rely on what you can see in the game; ignore cosmetics claims without proof |
| Payment goes to a scammer | Paying a stranger directly leaves nothing to dispute | Pay through a service that holds the money until you have checked the account |
Why linked platform accounts matter most
Apex Legends has Cross Progression: your level, legends and cosmetics sit on the EA account, not on the console or Steam account you play from. That works both ways. If the seller's Steam, PlayStation or Xbox account is still linked, it can open the game and play on the same EA account. EA lets you switch linked accounts up to 3 times in a rolling year, so unlinking is the first thing to do, not something to leave for later. Our guide to linked accounts and Cross Progression explains how this works in detail.
Day-one checklist after you receive the account
- Log in to the email the EA account uses and confirm you can read new messages.
- Sign in to the EA account and change the password.
- Open Connected Accounts in the EA account settings and unlink every Steam, PlayStation or Xbox account that isn't yours.
- Turn on two-factor authentication with your own email, authenticator app or phone, and save the backup codes.
- Launch Apex Legends and check the account level against the listing.

What an Apex Legends listing on BuyAccount shows
Each Apex Legends listing shows the account level, Apex hours played, the other EA games on the account with their hours, any linked Steam, PlayStation or Xbox account (marked as not included), an active EA Play subscription if there is one, and the account country. Listed accounts had no EA ban on record when they were published, and the email is delivered with the account.
Listings do not show skins, legends or heirlooms, because no source reports an account's Apex inventory. We would rather leave them out than guess. If any seller promises specific cosmetics, ask to see them in the game before you pay.
Payment is held until you confirm the account works, and every order is covered by 14-day buyer protection against a mismatch, failed delivery or an account that stops working through the seller's fault. See our buyer protection page, how it works and how to pay safely.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can EA close a bought Apex Legends account?
Yes. Its User Agreement lets it suspend or terminate accounts that break the rules, and its help centre says buying accounts is against them. Taking over the login completely lowers the practical risks, but nobody can promise that an account bought against the rules is risk-free.
Can the seller take the account back?
They can try, through the email or a linked platform account. Getting the email, changing the password, unlinking platforms you don't own and turning on two-factor authentication on day one closes those doors.
Do I get the seller's Steam or console account?
No. You get the EA account. Linked platform accounts belong to the seller and are not included, which is why you unlink them and link your own.
