The Most Valuable Evolutions and Champions in Clash Royale

Evolutions
An evolution is an alternate form of a card, unlocked with 6 Evolution Shards. It goes in the Evolution slot (from Arena 3) or the Wild slot (from Arena 10) and triggers after the card has been played a set number of times. About 42 cards could evolve as of August 2026, and each evolution also adds 5 to the collection level. The more evolutions an account has, the more decks it can play at full strength.
Heroes
Heroes are a newer special form, unlocked with 200 Hero Coins and played in the Hero slot (from Arena 5). Like evolutions, each one unlocked adds 5 to the collection level, and they take time to collect.
Champions
Champions are the rarest card type. The first comes from the Trophy Road at Arena 16; champions start at level 11, go up to 16 and have an Elixir ability. An account with several high-level champions has done a lot of progress that a new player can't buy quickly.
Card levels
- Level 16 is the maximum since November 2025; cards at 15 and 16 are the end of the upgrade road.
- The King Tower level rises with your card levels (level 16 needs 14 cards at level 15 or above), so a King Tower 16 account has a well-upgraded collection.
- Star levels are cosmetic only.
What doesn't add lasting value
- An active Pass Royale. It expires at the end of its season, about a month.
- The old King Level. It was removed on 26 May 2026; a listing quoting it shows a frozen number.
- Elite Wild Cards, Books and Magic Coins. They were removed in the November 2025 update and converted to gems.
