The Rarest Fortnite Skins in 2026

The rarest Fortnite skins in 2026 are the ones nobody can get any more: early Battle Pass rewards such as the Black Knight and Sparkle Specialist, and device or console promos such as Honor Guard, Wonder, Double Helix, Galaxy and IKONIK. Two famous names have changed status: Renegade Raider and Aerial Assault Trooper returned in the OG Season Shop in December 2024, so only the 2017 originals, which now carry an exclusive owner style, are still rare.

What actually makes a Fortnite skin rare?

Epic labels skins Uncommon, Rare, Epic or Legendary, but that colour says nothing about how hard a skin is to get today. Real rarity comes from a few things:

• When it was last available. A skin that left the game years ago and never came back is scarcer than a Legendary outfit that was in the shop last month.
• How it was obtained. Promo skins were tied to a phone or console purchase and were never sold in the Item Shop. Under Epic's current policy, Battle Pass rewards from Chapter 1 Season 2 through Chapter 5 Season 3 stay exclusive. Item Shop skins can return at any time.
• Original-owner styles. When Epic brings back an early skin, it has often given 2017 owners an exclusive style, so the original stays distinguishable from later copies.
• Account-bound ownership. Fortnite cosmetics can't be traded or moved to another account, so the only way to own a retired skin is to own the account that holds it.

The rarest Fortnite skins right now

Honor Guard, Wonder and Double Helix: the hardest to find

These three were never sold in the Item Shop. Honor Guard came with the Honor View20 phone in a promotion that began in February 2019, Wonder with the Honor 20 series later that year, and Double Helix with the Nintendo Switch Fortnite bundle in October 2018. They are the rarest skins in our own marketplace data: on 25 September 2026 they appeared on only 2, 3 and 3 of our 7,999 active Fortnite listings.

Black Knight and Sparkle Specialist: the Season 2 Battle Pass

The Black Knight was the tier 70 reward of the Chapter 1 Season 2 Battle Pass, the game's first paid pass, and Sparkle Specialist sat at tier 56 of the same pass. Neither has returned, and Epic's policy keeps rewards from that era exclusive. The Black Knight appeared on 41 of our listings and Sparkle Specialist on 91. Galaxy, IKONIK and Glow: the Samsung promos

Galaxy came with the Samsung Galaxy Note9 and Tab S4 in August 2018, IKONIK with the Galaxy S10 range in March 2019, and Glow with a broader Samsung promotion from September 2019 that covered several older Galaxy phones. Wildcat, Eon and Dark Vertex: console bundles

Eon (Xbox One S bundle, September 2018), Dark Vertex (Xbox One S special edition, June 2019) and Wildcat (Nintendo Switch bundle, 2020) were hardware exclusives. Each appeared on 9 to 11 of our listings, which makes them far harder to find than their reputation suggests.

The 2017 originals: Renegade Raider, Aerial Assault Trooper, Skull Trooper and Ghoul Trooper

All four have been sold again, so the skin alone no longer proves an early account. What collectors look for is the original-owner style: the black-and-gold styles Epic gave 2017 owners of Renegade Raider and Aerial Assault Trooper in 2025, the purple glow on the original Skull Trooper, and the pink original Ghoul Trooper. Travis Scott: the Icon Series skin that never came back

The Travis Scott outfit arrived with the Astronomical concert in April 2020 and was last in the Item Shop on 27 April 2020, after six days on sale. It hasn't returned since.

Which rare skins came back?

"Never returning" has proved to be a weak promise for Item Shop skins, and a few returns reshaped the list:

• Renegade Raider and Aerial Assault Trooper returned on 20 December 2024 in the OG Season Shop, together with the Raider's Revenge pickaxe and the Aerial Assault One glider. They were locked behind XP targets (1,000,000 XP for Aerial Assault Trooper, 1,500,000 XP for Renegade Raider) rather than sold outright, and the OG Season Shop has come back since.
• Recon Expert returned to the Item Shop in 2020, more than two years after its last 2017 appearance.
• Skull Trooper and Ghoul Trooper have been back in many Halloween seasons, which is why only their original styles count as rare.

Battle Pass rewards are on firmer ground. Epic now lets items from passes released after 7 August 2024 return to the shop 18 months after they leave a pass, but rewards from Chapter 1 Season 2 through Chapter 5 Season 3 remain exclusive. That is why the Black Knight and Sparkle Specialist hold their status. How rarity shows up in account prices

Rarity only matters to price when buyers can verify it. Accounts that include the Black Knight had a median asking price of about $188 on our marketplace, even though their typical locker holds 86 skins, a size where listings usually ask around $29. Accounts with Renegade Raider asked about $45 with a typical locker of 166 skins, close to what any account of that size asks, because listing data can't show which copies are 2017 originals. Epic doesn't publish ownership numbers, so no one can say for certain. Among the skins people ask about most, the promo exclusives Honor Guard, Wonder and Double Helix were the hardest to find in our September 2026 data, and the Black Knight is the rarest of the well-known Battle Pass skins.

Did Renegade Raider come back to Fortnite?

Yes. It returned in the OG Season Shop on 20 December 2024, unlocked by earning 1,500,000 XP, and the OG Season Shop has returned since. Players who bought it in 2017 received an exclusive black-and-gold style in 2025, which is now the mark of an original.

Will the Black Knight ever come back?

Under Epic's current policy, no: Battle Pass rewards from Chapter 1 Season 2 through Chapter 5 Season 3 stay exclusive. Only items from passes released after 7 August 2024 can return to the shop, 18 months after they leave a pass.

Why are some Legendary skins not rare?
