Black Knight vs Renegade Raider: Which OG Skin Is Rarer Now?

For years the Renegade Raider was the rarer of Fortnite's two classic OG skins. That changed on 20 December 2024, when it returned in the OG Season Shop. The Black Knight, a Season 2 Battle Pass reward, can't return under Epic's current policy. Our listing data shows the shift: in September 2026, accounts that include the Black Knight had a median asking price of about $188, against about $45 for accounts with Renegade Raider. Only a 2017 original Renegade Raider, marked by its black-and-gold style, still competes.
Where each skin came from
The Renegade Raider came first. It was sold in the Chapter 1 Season 1 Season Shop between November and December 2017, for 1,200 V-Bucks after you reached level 20 that season. Fortnite's player base was still small, so few accounts bought it at the time.
The Black Knight is a Legendary outfit from the Fort Knights set. It was the tier 70 reward, the last tier, of the Chapter 1 Season 2 Battle Pass (December 2017 to February 2018), the first paid pass Fortnite sold. The only way to get it was to buy that pass and reach its final tier.
What changed in December 2024
Epic reopened the Season 1 items in the OG Season Shop, with the Renegade Raider unlocked at 1,500,000 XP, and that shop has returned since. Any player who hit the target could add the skin to their locker. To protect the originals, Epic gave 2017 owners an exclusive black-and-gold style in 2025.
The Black Knight has had no such return. Under Epic's current policy, items from passes released after 7 August 2024 can come back to the shop 18 months after they leave a pass, but rewards from Chapter 1 Season 2 through Chapter 5 Season 3 stay exclusive. Which one is rarer now?
As a skin, the Black Knight. Its supply stopped growing in February 2018, while anyone who earned enough XP in the OG Season Shop could add the Renegade Raider. As an original, the comparison is closer: a Renegade Raider with the black-and-gold style still proves a 2017 account, and that group of owners can't grow either. The catch is that you can only tell an original apart by checking the style, which is why the name alone no longer sells an account.
Which one is worth more?
In our data, accounts with the Black Knight asked about four times as much as accounts with Renegade Raider, even though their lockers were smaller. The Black Knight accounts, with a typical 86 skins, sit in a size group where the typical listing asks about $29, so the skin clearly adds a premium. The Renegade Raider accounts ask about what their 166-skin lockers alone would suggest. A verified 2017 original is the exception; too few listings prove an original to publish a figure, so those accounts are priced case by case.
The rest of the account still matters for both: an early creation date, other Season 2 Battle Pass items such as Sparkle Specialist, promo skins and a clean account history all move the price. Prestige and reputation
The two skins still signal different things. A full Fort Knights loadout reads as a Season 2 veteran who bought the first Battle Pass and finished it. The Renegade Raider became shorthand for a long-time player, and many players still react to it in a lobby, even though a copy may now come from the OG Season Shop. For collectors, that makes the original-owner style the real status symbol.
How to verify either skin before you buy
- Black Knight: confirm it on a live video of the locker. Every copy dates from the 2018 pass, so the check is simply that it is there, alongside full original email access.
- Renegade Raider: if the price assumes an original, ask the seller to select the black-and-gold style on a live video and to show proof of a 2017 account.
- Both: buy through escrow, then change the email, password and 2FA straight away.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Renegade Raider rarer than the Black Knight?
Not any more, as a skin. The Renegade Raider returned in the OG Season Shop in December 2024, while the Black Knight can't return under Epic's current Battle Pass policy. A 2017 original Renegade Raider with the black-and-gold style is still scarce.
Can either skin come back?
The Renegade Raider already has, in the OG Season Shop, and that shop has returned since. The Black Knight is covered by Epic's rule that Battle Pass rewards from Chapter 1 Season 2 through Chapter 5 Season 3 stay exclusive.
Which skin makes an account worth more?
In our September 2026 data, accounts with the Black Knight had a median asking price of about $188, against about $45 for accounts with Renegade Raider. A verified 2017 original Renegade Raider is the exception and is priced case by case.
Should I buy an account with both?
An account with a Black Knight and a verified original Renegade Raider is a genuine Chapter 1 collection. Check both on a live video, confirm the black-and-gold style and full email access, and pay through escrow.
