How to Check a Clash of Clans Account Before Buying

QUICK ANSWER
Before you pay for a Clash of Clans account, check three things: who controls the login (Supercell ID email included, no phone number linked), what the village really holds (Town Hall, each hero's level, hero equipment, pets, troops and spells, not just the Town Hall number) and how you pay (escrow with a dispute window). The Town Hall alone tells you little: two TH16 accounts can be worlds apart in hero levels.
Most bad Clash of Clans purchases fail on one of two points: the buyer never really got control of the account, or the village was far weaker than the Town Hall number suggested. This checklist walks through what to look at, in the order that matters.
1. Control of the account
| Check | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| The account is saved to a Supercell ID | Supercell ID is how Clash of Clans moves between devices; it logs in with a code sent to its email, with no password |
| You receive the email the Supercell ID is linked to | Without that inbox you can't receive login codes or change the Supercell ID email to your own |
| No phone number is linked | Supercell's Account Protection (SMS and recovery codes) cannot be disabled, even by support, so a seller's phone would stay the key |
| The seller didn't obtain it by phishing or brute force | Stolen accounts are the ones most likely to be reclaimed |

2. The village: look past the Town Hall
The Town Hall is the first filter, but it is the easiest number to inflate. Players call a village "rushed" when the Town Hall was upgraded before heroes, troops and defenses caught up. Rushed villages still face opponents of a similar Town Hall in Clan Wars, so they feel weak. Check these, in order:
- Hero levels. Heroes take the longest to upgrade and count towards war matchmaking. Compare each hero's level with its maximum. Heroes unlock with the Hero Hall: Barbarian King, Archer Queen and Minion Prince first, Grand Warden at Town Hall 11, Royal Champion at 13 and Dragon Duke at 15.
- Hero equipment. Since Town Hall 16 introduced it, equipment levels are a big part of a hero's strength and they now count in war matchmaking too.
- Troops and spells. Their levels decide how strong your attacks are. A high Town Hall with low troop levels means a long upgrade road.
- Pets and siege machines. The Pet House unlocks at Town Hall 14 and the Workshop at Town Hall 12, so these show up on stronger villages.
- Builder Base. The Builder Hall (up to level 10) and its heroes, the Battle Machine and Battle Copter, are a separate village you get too.
3. Extras that come with the Supercell ID
- Other Supercell games. If the same Supercell ID has Brawl Stars or Clash Royale progress, you get it as well.
- Gold Pass. An active Gold Pass is nice, but it only lasts until the end of that season (one calendar month) and doesn't carry over.
- Experience level. It grows with upgrades, donations and achievements and mostly unlocks decorations, so treat it as a sign of play time rather than strength.
4. Paying and delivery
- Pay through escrow, so the seller is only paid after you have checked the account.
- Check the village in the game against the listing before you confirm delivery.
- Change the Supercell ID email to your own on day one: Settings, Supercell ID, the cogwheel, Change Email.
On BuyAccount payment is held until you confirm the account, and the 14-day buyer protection covers a mismatch, failed delivery or an account that stops working through the seller's fault. How it works shows each step.
How BuyAccount listings help with the checks
Every Clash of Clans listing on BuyAccount shows the Town Hall, experience level and every hero, piece of equipment, pet, troop, spell and siege machine with its level, read from the official Clash of Clans data when the listing was published. Listings also state that no phone number is linked and that the email comes with the account, and we leave out heavily rushed villages and accounts marked as phished or brute-forced.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is a higher Town Hall always better?
No. A Town Hall upgraded far ahead of its heroes and troops plays weaker than a lower, fully upgraded one. Compare hero and troop levels, not just the Town Hall.
Can I check an account myself before paying?
Use the levels on the listing to compare accounts, then check them in the game after delivery and before you confirm. With escrow, the seller isn't paid until you do.
What if the levels don't match the listing?
Don't confirm delivery. Open a dispute within the buyer-protection window instead.
